Domain Name Registration may sound technical, but actually it is merely a system to keep up with who owns the right to use the name associated with a web site or email account. Let's say you own the company "Dan's Mufflers INC" and would like to have a web presence with a name that closely relates to your business. A domain name like "dansmufflers.com" would work unless someone else has already purchased that name. Domain names are issued on a first come first served type basis. Someone else may already have registered the name you want especially if it is a common name. There are alternatives such as "dansmufflers.net", "dansmufflers.biz" or "dans-mufflers.com". Once you have registered a domain name it is yours to use as you see fit for one year. To continue using that name it must be renewed once a year for a small fee or that name will be up for grabs to anyone willing to pay the registration fee.
